MICHAELBRAILEY is an electronic musician, composer, curator, performer and DJ currently based in Manchester, UK. For FACT Liverpool, he will be creating a new work starring Manchester-based musician and performer Callum Coomber.
His work flails amidst contemporary unrest - from the instantaneousness of digital space to the euphoria of heartbreak, from the boundlessness of queer identity to the biodiversity of ecology mid-collapse. Using text, lo-fi and hi-fi sound, performers, multimedia and audience perception, he attempts to encompass the vast expanse between the intimate and universal to find a sense of place within the tumultuous present day.
He has worked with artists including soprano Juliet Fraser, electronic artist Sam Kidel, ensemble The House of Bedlam, queer-dominated DJ collective boygirl, multimedia pianist Silvia Lucas, and physical performance group SHOAL. He has hosted shows on NTS Radio, and has released electronic music on labels DISPLAY and Hush Hush Records, with a forthcoming release on Astral Plane Recordings. He has been performed at Royal Festival Hall, Tate Modern, Snape Maltings, Wigmore Hall and performed live electronic performances and DJ sets at numerous venues across Europe.
He curates VIRTUALLYREALITY, an events series programming adventurous new music and performance in Manchester since 2017.
