Bernie Lubell, A Prurient Interest, 1999. Installation view at FACT.
This work is an homage to the kinetic artist Jean Tinguely who once said, "Making art is not so much about having fun, it is more like scratching an itch. You scratch it and you feel better for a while." Bernie has used a tambour and a squeeze bulb to produce this effect. By squeezing the latex bulb a scratching noise is created inside the windowless box.
