Buttons is a camera that takes other people's photos. The work explores the idea of the camera as a networked object and how the sharing of visual memories online through websites like flickr.com is already part the process of photography itself. Unlike a typical camera phone, Buttons doesn't have any optical parts. When you press the button to take a photograph, the only thing registered is the time and date of the moment - no image is captured by the device. Buttons then searches the Internet for other people's photographs that have been uploaded at exactly the same moment. After a few seconds or minutes, depending on how soon someone else shares their photo on the web, an image will appear on the screen that has been taken somewhere else at exactly the same time that the button was pressed.
