This work explores, examines and documents the institutional spaces and experience of living in homeless hostels.

Building on his collaborative project, Home (part of LOOK13) which focused on the individual through photographic portraits occupying the spaces in homeless hostels, If it Could Speak moves beyond the human presence to document the objects and spaces found in these environments.

Since 2012 Mallon has documented eleven homeless hostels around the city, the resulting photographs capture the clinical nature of these spaces and the occasional traces left behind by their former inhabitants.

Further work from this project can be seen on the former Futurist Cinema site (Lime Street, Liverpool) during LOOK15, Liverpool's International photography festival (15-31 May 2015).
