Public and private has a charged meaning in Russia, where the space programme was once a symbol of communism. It is a little-known fact that the Soviet Union was the last on the Moon (Luna 24 landed and took off with a sample of moondust in 1976 - four years after the last Apollo landing). Leonid Tishkov shows that the Moon can be everybody's private utopia in an original series of photographs that tell the story of a man who met the Moon and stayed with her for the rest of his life, and how the Moon helps us overcome our loneliness in the universe by uniting us around it.
