We're delighted to host A.MAL Projects for a day of workshops, performances and talks exploring ARD - an Arabic word which encompasses earth, ground, soil and territory - from the perspective of UK, Morocco and Egypt based artists and practitioners.
A.MAL is an art and research initiative exploring ecology, migration and globalisation, that casts a critical eye on past and present global issues while seeking to harness human connection and creativity to imagine better, more hopeful futures. They create opportunities for collaboration and experimentation through paid artist residencies, workshops and talks, and touring exhibitions across Europe/North Africa. A.MAL bring emerging and mid-career artists/creatives from Europe, North Africa and the diaspora, to engage in reciprocal learning and experience sharing.

Discussion led by Nour El Safoury (Cairo) of Esmat Publishing
A.MAL Projects invite you to bring along books, essays and texts that relate to the thematics of ARD - for example, our relationship to land, seeds or food. These texts can be from scholars or thinkers that you love or something that you wrote yourself! Together you'll share in a collective discussion that will focus on these texts in the context of three geographies: UK, Morocco and Egypt. The discussion will be led by Editor, Publisher and Director of Esmat Publishing, Nour Elsafoury.

Parasitic Soils
Performative Lecture by Sabrina Mumtaz Hasan (London)
Sabrina Mumtaz Hasan MA, FHEA's practice is stimulated by her writings on materialising the positive aspects of a parasite, in favour of catalysing sociological change; working against the pejorative perception of parasite-host relationships, she coined the term Socio-Parasitology. She explores the positive acts of interruption through temperature, immigration policy, diagram, scale, bio-matter, ethics and various states of displacement, arrival, transit and diverse bodies in flux.

Transmission is a bodily circuit that imprints a rhythm in the body. In this process, a musical skill passes throughout the flesh, becoming a know-how, like second nature. In this unique performative essay by Hallima Imane Zoubai, one of Morocco’s most exciting multidisciplinary artists, gestures and oral transmission of music and poetry in Morocco will be brought to FACT Liverpool.

Q&A with Sabrina Mumtaz Hasan and Hallima Imane Zoubai
Join us for a captivating Q&A with London-based artist Sabrina Mumtaz Hasan and Hallima Imane Zoubai. Sabrina is a lecturer at Slade School of Fine Art in Fine Art Media, known for her exploration of positive parasite relations and sociological change.
Hallima is a multidisciplinary artist from Fez, Morocco. Her unique performative essay delves into the oral transmission of music and poetry, showcasing Morocco's rich cultural heritage. She recently performed and Documenta fifteen 23 in Kessle, and has lead workshops in Berlin.

Live Audio Visual Performance by Younes El Hossaini and Saad Elbaraka, Casablanca
Join us for this UK premier of Casa Tkber o Tnssa with two of Morocco’s most revered underground artists. Referring to the Moroccan proverb " كازا تكبر و تنسى “, “Once you get old in Casablanca, the city’s hustle vanishes your memories'', this audio-visual experience allows you to explore the lifestyle of Casawi people. A homage to Casablanca’s vibrant, eclectic and urban ambiance, the performance, which uses distorted video and sound, promises to be an assault on the senses, that may cause you to hold onto your own memories a little tighter.
