Part of the Spring 2019 season

Join us for a fairy tale-inspired storytime where two stories, rewritten by women from the Merseyside Women’s Liberation Movement in 1972, will be acted out and read aloud. Collectively written by Audrey Ackroyd, Marge Ben-Tovim, Catherine Meredith and Anne Neville and illustrated by Trevor Skempton, the stories were produced as a series of Once and Future Tales have been retold with surprising twists and endings. Rapunzel uses her hair to save herself from the tower, and Snow White unionises the Dwarves!

Come dressed as your own modern day fairy tale character and enjoy a twist on classic tales including Snow White and Red Riding Hood.

This family friendly event is free but please note, booking is required. Please book by selecting a performance time above. Each performance will last for one hour and begin at 12:00 and 14:00.

You pick up your own edition of Once and Future Tales (including Snow White, Red Riding or Rapunzel) for £2 each or a set of three tales for £5. Available for pre-order from World Book Day 2019 (Thursday 7 March) until the opening of Ericka Beckman and Marianna Simnett (Friday 29 March), and then after from our Learning Space at FACT (whilst stocks last).

Once and Future Tales

In 1972, four women from the Merseyside Women’s Liberation Movement endeavoured to rewrite a series of traditional fairy tales. This is the story behind why and how you can read their retold Once and Future Tales.
