Gurinder Chadha’s (Bend it Like Beckham) comedy-drama, Bhaji on the Beach, follows a group of multigenerational British Asian women on a road trip to see the Blackpool Illuminations. Full of surprises and joyful moments, the film also raises potent topics of tradition, assimilation and identity.
Devi (The Goddess) (1960)

Written and directed by Satyajit Ray, Devi (The Goddess) explores the conflict between fanaticism and free will. This 1960’s classic sees a wealthy landlord decide his daughter-in-law is an incarnation of the Mother Goddess, leading to devastating consequences for the young woman and those around her.
A Private Enterprise (1974)

Peter K. Smith’s A Private Enterprise was the first British film to portray the lives of migrants from the Indian subcontinent. The film follows an ambitious graduate, as he struggles against the British social structure and traditional family values to pursue his entrepreneurial dream. We're pleased to be showing this landmark film in its original 35mm print - a special screening that's perfect for cinephiles!
