Nurturing artistic practice is central to what we do. Every year, we invite artists, scientists, technologists, radical thinkers, Liverpool communities and creative practitioners to develop their practice and showcase their work through residencies, both physically and remotely.
Residencies
Our residencies support, commission and offer career-enhancing opportunities for artists to develop and show new work, curators to bring their exhibitions to life and technologists to access cutting-edge equipment. Supported by our skilled team, our residencies are open to everyone, of any age and from anywhere in the world, and span a wide range of themes.
Find out more about residencies below or visit our news page to see which calls are currently open. All artist opportunities are shared in our newsletter. Be the first to know and join our mailing list.

Curatorial Development Programme
From 2022 - 2025, and with support from the John Ellerman Foundation, we will host an annual series of curatorial residencies. Over these years, this programme will look to nurture diverse current and future generations of curators - supporting them to gain confidence, skills and experiences through the production and presentation of work that sits at the intersection of art and technology.
Jerwood Arts x FACT Fellowship
This annual fellowship supported by Jerwood Arts appoints 3 emerging artists, curators, creative technologists, critical thinkers, or cultural activists, from any background, to support their potential as producers of the future. Each Fellow receives a fee, production budget and travel and accommodation is paid for. Alongside, there will be professional mentoring from our team and our network of collaborators, to assist in the development of not only your idea but also your practice.
FACT Together
FACT Together is an online commissioning scheme that supports early-career artists in the North of England. Launched in 2020, this opportunity was set up in response to the financial uncertainty caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the temporary closure of galleries and museums across the world. Each artist or artist group receives a grant, production budget, plus 3 months of support to create new online artwork remotely.
Board of Trustees Artist Residency
From 2021, we are launching an annual artist residency that will invite an artist to join our Board of Trustees. The year-long residency will see our Board as a site for artistic intervention and institutional critique into governance functions, which can often feel exclusive due to their bureaucratic nature.
Past Residencies
As the world changes around us, we are always looking at new ways to improve and develop our residencies, making them better suited to support your needs. Look back at our previous residencies to understand how we work with artists and curators.
Curator in Residence
Established in 2019, our Curator in Residence programme invites curators based in the UK to develop a major exhibition and a public programme of events that engage with our visitors. This residency is now part of our annual curatorial programme supported by the John Ellerman Foundation.

The European Media Artists Residency Exchange (EMARE) programme supports emerging European media artists with a grant to produce new work and a 2 month residency at a host institution with access to their facilities and in-house expertise.
